Richard Grimes
Richard Grimes grew up in Denver and graduated from University of California Berkeley with degrees in statistics and operations research. He worked for a boutique consulting company in Northern California, and later for Charles Schwab, using data analytics to find insights about customers to better serve them and to identify ways to increase corporate profitability. After setting up a branch office near London, England, where he had to have pages added to his passport for additional entry and exit stamps, he moved to Boulder, Colorado, where he and his wife Lotte live more quietly.
Richard has been studying Tibetan buddhist teachings since the early 1970s, but it was meeting Sogyal Rinpoche in 1993 that crystalized many things and allowed the process to start to blossom. He was particularly captured by this wisdom tradition’s rich collection of skillful means, as well as the amazing generosity of the lama and his organization in making them available in such practical and effective forms. After attending many short meditation and study retreats over the years, he was fortunate to participate in the three-year retreat in Lerab Ling, Rigpa’s retreat center in France 2006-2009.
Now he teaches Rigpa online classes, which probably helps him as much as the students, helps out with the Boulder sangha, and enjoys the near-by mountains.
