In our busy lives, we often extend kindness to others while being remarkably hard on ourselves. This course offers a different approach. Through the practice of loving kindness meditation - a gentle yet powerful technique from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition - you'll learn to cultivate genuine warmth toward yourself first, creating a foundation for relating to others with more ease and compassion. This isn't about positive thinking or forcing yourself to feel a certain way. Instead, you'll discover how to work skillfully with the difficult emotions, self-criticism, and protective walls that naturally arise, softening them through awareness and practice.
Over ten sessions (two hours each for 10 weeks), you'll engage with video teachings by Sogyal Rinpoche, participate in guided meditations, and share in supportive group discussions. The course draws on profound wisdom from The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, presented in a clear, accessible way that welcomes everyone—whether you're new to meditation or have an established practice. Many students find that loving kindness practice helps them handle stress more gracefully, improves their relationships, and addresses feelings of unworthiness or low self-esteem that may have lingered for years.
This course is practical and experiential. You'll leave each session with tools you can use in daily life, and you'll be part of a community exploring these practices together. No prior knowledge of Buddhism is needed—just an open heart and a willingness to be a little kinder to yourself.
