James grew up in Connecticut and moved to San Diego in his late twenties where he first read the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying and connected with the local Rigpa Sangha. James attended his first retreat with Sogyal Rinpoche in Clear Lake, California in November of 1996 and has been a dedicated member of the Sangha ever since.

Having no serious career or familial obligations, James spent a number of years doing whatever work was available and striving (with greater or lesser degrees of success!) to focus the bulk of his time, attention and energy on the Dharma until finally coming to work for Rigpa and ZAM in 2009.

James is currently living in Berkeley, CA and working with the Rigpa US national team in San Francisco managing the ZAM bookstore.

James enjoys cooking, playing the guitar and singing, getting out into the open air and spending as much time as possible engaged in practice, reflection and visiting with Dharma friends.
